By 10pm Tonight, the Heisman Will Have Been Decided

Somehow- this post did not end up yesterday- Oh No! My apologies. More later.

This Clever Girl is so very lucky because I got to sit down today with one of the most Clever Guys I know. Erin Hogan is host of the Morning Rush on 104.9 FM ESPN Austin and has been a fixture on the airwaves of sports radio in Austin for 12 years. He is my go-to guy when it comes to batting around ideas, and because he was on his way to Arlington for the Big 12 championship game and the accompanying hoopla, he was kind enough to meet me for a beer and some straight sports talk

Saturday is the game of the year, Clever Tribe. Florida and Alabama. It was the game of the year opening the season and now the two undefeated titans will meet at 3 p.m. - exactly four hours prior to the University of Texas and Nebraska match up. Big sports day. The Heisman will be decided and Erin upset me by trying to assert there was a 10 percent chance Gerhart might win it. I am giving that a one percent chance. We will see. To address a question by a reader- no, Spiller is not in the running. He's dynamic- but there’s not enough hype.

A great many failures would have to take place today for Jim Harbaugh’s player to walk away with the most coveted trophy in all of college athletics. First of all, Tebow would have to punk out, Ingram would have to punk out and Colt would have to punk out. Now, it could happen to any one of those boys under the right circumstances- or actually under the worst circumstances- but all three? Not likely. So- let’s take Gerhart out of the equation and Erin and I can revisit it tonight at 10 p.m. when a clear cut winner will have emerged.

In the meantime, I would like to congratulate Erin and his cohorts on their move to FM- that is totally amazing. The Horn is the authority on Lone Star sports with an emphasis on University of Texas and college football, so if you feel your area is a bit light in that department- you can listen to any of The Horn’s shows on line at www.espnaustin.com.

Here is what you can expect from the boys at The Horn- ESPN Austin. Sports talk from Geoff Ketchum founder and owner of Orangebloods.com- one of the most successful college websites in existence. Chip Brown covered Texas sports for 20 years with the AP and now writes for orangebloods.com. He’s the insider’s insider and I’m a big fan because he’s from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Derek Jeter’s hometown)- oh, and because he’s really smart and very Clever.

Erin partners with Dan Neil, a two-time All-American at UT, Lombardi award finalist and two-time Super Bowl Champion offensive guard with the John Elway-led Denver Brocos in 1997 and 1998. He is a Republican’s Republican, a Man’s Man and is not hard on the eyes. As a matter of fact, ladies, the Neil / Hogan team is heavy on the handsome.

Sean Adams brings a great deal to ESPN. As a published author and motivational speaker, this Clever Guy helps to mentally prepare athletes for life beyond sports. It's a tough transition for many and Sean Adams is an immense source of support. There is no doubt, Sean Adams knows how to talk sports and how to dress- this is a very well-spoken and well-dressed man.

Chad Hastings brings a unique perspective to ESPN Austin as the lone Aggie. He is quick, charming and always offers a fresh spin on things.

Erin and I had a rather intense discussion regarding my post Thursday and eventually came to agreement on everything. True, what Tiger seems to have done is not consistent with his brand. Tiger Woods Inc. An image has been cultivated- I personally believe he was along for the ride and too young to recognize what was happening when the image was taking hold. He did, at some point, however, buy into the image. Squeaky clean.

It appears this is not a case of meeting the love of your life after you are already married to someone else- an affair of the heart. The situation is taking shape as something else entirely.

Tiger was being Tiger. Is it possible that who he IS is not consistent with the depiction of who he IS? It would seem so.

The only thing I have issue with is the cast of characters, as Erin put it. It does not reflect well on him- the women he chose to, uh, engage with (in what ever context that is). The rather “seedy” nature is what is in direct violation of TWinc. In conflict with his image. This is what will be a problem in maintaining his endorsements. Does he need to maintain his endorsements? Probably not. How much money is enough? How important is the image he, his father, the media, society and his branding specialists created? Only he can answer that. The extra-marital aspect is a private matter. The image being tarnished is between Tiger and TWinc. No judgment here.

  1. Colt shit the bed...looks like the Heisman belongs to Ingram. Don't even get me started on Tebow...crying like a baby on national television! What a punk!

If the Heisman goes to Ingram, it will be the perfect social commentary. Right Now Nation.
I understand the Heisman trophy is awarded to the best college football player each year- but it is simply impossible to ignore Colt's vast production during his tenure at The University of Texas.
As far as the tears Tim shed- are you really going to fault him for being authentic? Maybe he was upset. Weird.
