More Clever Gifts for Clever Guys

OK, Clever Girls, I've decided to do a monthly post regarding Clever Gifts for your Clever Guy and some tips as to how to let your new guy know he is not only welcome to stay over, but spend the weekend.

Also this month will be Clever gifts for Clever Girls and I will do this monthly, because frankly, I don't know a dude who is going to buy a gift further than one month out. I'll always put the hyperlinks in so they don't have to wear themselves out shopping.

If you're satisfied with his skin and hair care products, purchase them along with a toothbrush and a nice razor. If you’d like him to try some newer, healthier products check out Jack Black, Kiehl’s, Molton Brown, Dr. Copeland skincare and Aveda.

All f the above lines specialize in men’s skin and hair health, most include oft overlooked exfoliators, sunblock and lip care. I am a huge fan of Kiehl’s as I’ve said before- their simple and prescriptive packaging just makes me feel like I am doing something good for my body and hair- even though I truly am.

Steer clear of anti-aging items unless he has specifically asked you for advice in this arena- as well as you should not stock your cabinets with Rogaine for men.

For The So Very Clever Traveler

Neiman Marcus has a Bliss travel kit with foaming face wash, body wash and lotion and a two-in-one conditioner and shampoo along with a bar of soap- all sizes are safe for carry-on and the bottles are refillable (larger bottles of each are available at Neiman Marcus or Bliss spas in W hotels) $20

Also available is the Jack Black travel kit with face buff energizing scrub, hand healer, lip therapy, shaving cream, hair, face and body wash and SPF 20 moisturizer. Unlike the Bliss kit, these products are nestled into a black water resistant bag. This currently is on sale for $56.

Passport covers are ugly- try a new leather one in a variety of colors available at Neiman Marcus- $40

Swiss Army has a surprising array of gift items for men. They feature a full variety of cooking knives and steak knife sets, pocket knives, time pieces, fragrances and luggage- along with a gorgeous travel alarm called the pocket Reveille.

Stanley has durable water bottles, flasks and thermoses.

Leatherman has combined the utility of a pocket knife with basic tools with their Skeletool. Starting at $70, this lightweight and highly durable, high functioning tool is a must have for the man who loves to tinker. This site is a great source for gifts for the outdoorsman- flashlights, pedometers, binoculars, outdoor lighting, portable power and hunting supplies.

Bose has a host of options for iPod docking stations, headphones and speakers. If he slips on his noise reducing headphones during an argument, you might be dating the wrong dude.

The lover of tools can never go wrong with a gift from Craftsman, but you should have our finger on the pulse of what he already owns and poke around to see what he might like.

For the So Very Cleverly Clad Gentleman

I love Neiman Marcus handkerchiefs. As with many Neiman Marcus items- the packaging elevates the gift. Ten kerchiefs wrapped simply in burlap and tied with twine for $22. This is a fantastic gift for all the Clever Guys in your life. Grandfathers, fathers and brothers- everyone finds occasion to need to carry one.

Wallets are OUT- the new leather iPhone power case houses both your credit cards, a bit of cash, ID and phone. Use the CardStar application to enter all your miscellaneous club cards so you can pare down the bulk. Available at Neiman Marcus for $99.95

A Clever Guy in Pennsylvania named Danny recommended the Marathon watch for larger men who need a bigger face (stainless steel) and wider band- however, this is a vulcanized rubber strap. Rolex and Breitling are more pricey options.

The So Very Clever Sportsman

The handgun enthusiast is easy to buy for. Check out Sig Sauer online for extra magazines (make sure you know the make of his gun), protective ear wear and a range bag that holds ammo, eye and ear protection, has two padded pistol areas and comes with a shoulder strap, is water repellant and under $50/

Check out the Sig Sauer Academy for courses and certification classes for a unique gift experience.

Magazine subscriptions are also a fun gift- and will remind him of you each month. Make sure they are relevant or you are just wasting your money. ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Guns & Ammo, Car & Driver, Men’s Journal, Men’s Fitness, Road & Track and GQ are some of my personal favorites.

Don’t forget his other favorite person- his dog. Neiman Marcus has a Juicy Couture collar and leash in navy blue complete with ID tags for $85.

The So Very Clever in the Kitchen Guy

I have yet to try these, but Marathon also features a line of silicone bakeware- muffin tins, loaf pans and bundt pans. Also in the silicone line are colanders, measuring devices, utensils and oven mitts. Their prices for these products are so much more reasonable than similar items I've seen at Sur La Table.

Bodum is available widely at places such as Crate and Barrel and on ine- they have French presses for the coffee fanatic ($30 and up) and for those who love to home brew their own tea. There are tea presses starting at $40 and going up to $200. Also find mugs, cups, coffee grinders, toasters and gifts for the travel drinker.

Check Whole Foods for cooking classes in your area and also Viking for cooking school and individual classes. Join together or send him alone for some educational relaxation (an added benefit is being lavished with his new knowledge and creations).

OK, I still want to cover some NHL and talk about Tiger and the USC allegations- they really do matter.
